Wine + Milk : How to Experience Wineries with Kids

Yes, wine is for adults - but there are times you are traveling or can't find/afford a sitter. Following these tips and tricks, you will have no issue enjoying the scenery (+ the wine) with your littles.

Full disclosure : working in the wine industry for the past decade, this is a topic that comes with a range of opinions. Being a parent myself, I have experience from both sides : bringing my kids to a winery and watching parents bring their kids to wineries.

How to Select the Winery : If you are unfamiliar with the area, begin your research with an association that covers the general region. You can apply filters for location and family-friendly.

If you have a winery in mind, or received a recommendation, don't be afraid to call the winery and ask if children are welcome.

Etiquette : Wineries and vineyards are working farms. There are large tractors, tanks, and equipment that are not made for hide-and-seek. In addition, the sweet couple next to you may lovingly comment that your three-year-old is adorable, but on your other side is a couple that is hoping to enjoy peace and quiet. To avoid any uncomfortable situations or interactions, it's best to keep your kids at your table and occupied.

Food : Depending on where you are visiting, wineries can have a range of snack options and acceptance of picnics. Speaking from experience, kids may not enjoy the cheese plates or charcuterie boards offered at wineries. I recommend bringing a few snacks that your kids will enjoy.

Pumping or Breastfeeding : This article was one my favorite reads when visiting wineries with a newborn.

Have a favorite winery to visit with kids or newborns? I'd love to hear your recommendations!
