One of my favorite steps in packing for a vacation is picking out a few books to bring with me. I still read the physical books, and haven't converted to a kindle or online reading, so I usually pack 1 or 2 books for our travel. I also have two small children, so I generally have small pockets of time to read while on vacation. Having these small moments requires that books are easy to pick-up where I left off.
Anything written by Emily Henry. I love the character development she brings to her books. I read Happy Place recently on our vacation to Maui. I had originally picked it up in the Pensacola airport in August, and was excited to finally get to it.
Here are some Emily Henry books I suggest :
If you are in the mood for a book with deeper themes, I highly suggest Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. The story itself can be haunting, but the main character maintains a whisper of humor that allows you to keep reading. The writing itself is beautiful and you are hooked on the storyline right away. For many of my friends and family, this was hands-down one of their favorite books of 2023.
One of my personal favorite reads in 2023 was Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult . I loved the mystery, literally until the end of the book. I connected with the character, Olivia, in her history and sympathized with her. If you like drama and mystery, take this on your next vacation.
I know these books were released a few years ago (2016 & 2022) but the film is being released in 2024. If you were skeptical of these books, or didn't read It Starts With Us - I really recommend both books. I devoured It Ends With Us on a flight from Pensacola to Dallas - literally couldn't read it fast enough. When I got home, I had to get It Starts With Us to find out what happened next. If you haven't read either, there is a great deal on Amazon.
