With the new year approaching, many think about 'resolutions.' There's the classic "I'm going to the gym every day, never drinking alcohol again, and going to look like a supermodel by spring..." - but after week two, you start to break down and go back to your previous lifestyle. I remember one year, before kids, I tried to change my diet completely. I cut out sugar and tried to be a vegan - I took one bite of a vegan pizza and nearly cried.
Let's stop making such drastic goals and normalize mindset goals.

Where to Start
Understand that it's okay if you don't want to make a resolution. You can change habits anytime during the year, so you don't have to wait until January 1st to make positive changes in your life.
Make a list of areas that, if improved, would bring you happiness. Examples: more time for myself, understanding retirement savings, getting outside more.
Rank your list starting with your top priority.
Below each item, bullet a few ways you could start implementing your goal.
Take a look at my 2025 goal list:
(1) Prioritize family time
- Plan something "fun" at least once per month, even if it's just a visit to the local park
- Communicate when I need personal time to recharge and be more present during family time
- Budget for housecleaning so I don't spend a large percentage of time cleaning on weekends
- Make financially-minded decisions to allow for more family trips
(2) Love my house
- Purge clutter
- Act on inspiration
- Research landscaping prior to purchasing plants
(3) Make an effort to make passions come true
- Swap in podcasts during commute to work
- Schedule time during the week for focus time
(4) Find a health routine that works for me
- Make flavored water for work (lemon, cucumber, mint, citrus)
- Prioritize meal prep for the work week
- Experiment with exercise
Keep it Going
Now that you have your list- keep it in mind - however it works for you. Here are some ideas:
Post-it Notes. I recently listened to an interview with Jelly Roll, where he said he keeps positive thoughts or goals in the front of his mind by having Post-it notes in his mirror.
Make a vision board and attach your goals.
Set regular times during your week to check in with yourself. Keep a journal or calendar with your goals and scheduled time.
Get coffee or a drink with your partner, a family member, or a close friend and share your goals; ask them to keep you accountable.
I look forward to sharing my goal progress with you through this blog. What are some of your goals for 2025? Share them below!
