We have been attempting to transition our spare room into an office space for the past few months. I needed to force myself to find some inspiration to kick-start the project. After scrolling though Pinterest, I really wanted to achieve the look and texture of limewash.
Gather Your Supplies
The inspiration photo I found used Benjamin Moore paint, which wouldn't fit within my budget. Home Depot, luckily, was able to match the exact colors from my inspiration photo.
For the base I used : Army Green 2141-30. I loved this color and was really tempted to abandon my goal of the limewash look.
The second layer will be in Horizon Gray 2141-50.
My total wall size was 10'x15' and we have a door within the wall. Being on a budget, I purchased a quart of each paint color. The Army Green we needed the entire can, but we barely used the Horizon Gray. I think the 8oz can would have been pushing it on Horizon Gray, so I would still recommend purchasing the quart.
We purchased the Behr Marquee in Matte for both colors.
In addition, you will need the following supplies :
Paint Tray, Brushes, Rollers : I love this kit, but if you have spare supplies and aren't wanting to purchase more - make sure you have, at minimum, a roller and 2" brush.
Spray Bottle (I used our Disneyland fan/sprayer, so use what you have on hand if you can!)
Painters Tape (We tried Frog Tape for this project, but I would recommend this ScotchBlue. It does better with sticking to surfaces.)
Drop Cloth (Don't skip this item. This is a messy process! I love this pack because we use them for other projects and this bulk set comes out to roughly $2 per drop cloth.)
Old (or new) sponge, or you can use old (but clean) rags.
Prep Your Wall
Clean the wall, specifically : baseboards, spiderwebs at the ceiling, any trim work
Remove any outlet covers, tape electrical outlets
Tape your wall. TIP : tape your drop cloth against the wall to protect against drips on your baseboards or on the carpet.
Getting the area prepped, notice the drop cloth is taped to the baseboards to prevent paint getting on the baseboards or carpet.
Set Your Base
Now that your wall is prepped, grab your favorite painting beverage and get ready to paint. I love these Lone River Ranch Ritas!
Again, I was SO tempted to call it - we really loved this Army Green color. We might use it on another wall, or two, in the house.
Wait 24 hours . . .
Let the Army Green color dry completely, ideally 24 hours.
Work in Sections, Semi-Quickly
I have a full reel on Instagram on this process.
Use your spray bottle and lightly wet the wall.
Take your 2" brush, dip in the Horizon Gray, and make large painting strokes in various directions.
Take a sponge (or rags) and wipe the paint. You want this to look organic, so I would step back frequently and see where I needed to go back to wipe/blend more.
Enjoy Your Limewash Wall
